Welcome to my new blog.
To set the scene:
I have just finished my HND in Jewellery & Silversmithing at Birmingham City University. This year I was lucky enough to get nominated for the George Jackson Travelling Fund Award. This award allows you to fund your own travelling experience that will benefit your future studies, for my proposal I chose Rio de Janeiro. If I won I planned to go there as a volunteer and do several treks through the rainforest to inspire my final ‘top-up’ year course at Birmingham.
And then I won… which meant I was actually going to somewhere I barely knew anything about to help children in a language I can’t speak. Amazing, but kind of scary.
I’m leaving the UK on the 3rd of August and returning on the 20th. While I’m in Rio I want to keep a record of my time there in this blog, hopefully with loads of amazing pictures! I’m new to this blogging thing so if it makes no sense, bear with me. Until then I’m going to keep trying to learn Portuguese…
